Another successful participation of the EuroHeartPath consortium has come to an end. This year, the project was proudly represented at ESC Congress 2026 in Munich, the world’s leading cardiovascular event, bringing together more than 33,800 delegates and scientific partners from over 100 countries. The remarkable international attendance once again demonstrated the importance of ESC Congress as a unique platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation, enabling healthcare professionals, researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers to advance cardiovascular care for the benefit of patients worldwide.
Throughout the congress, EuroHeartPath showcased its work through scientific presentations, poster sessions and high-level discussions on the future of cardiovascular care pathways, highlighting the consortium’s ongoing commitment to improving the implementation of evidence-based cardiovascular care across Europe.
A key highlight of the EuroHeartPath’s presence at the congress was the ESC TV Connect session, “Innovation as an Enabler in the Transformation of Cardiovascular Care Pathways.”
The session featured EuroHeartPath alongside the GRACE project, two initiatives funded by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI). Moderated by Prof. Pim van der Harst (UMCG), the discussion brought together Marcos Gallego Llorente (Vintura), Prof. Teresa López-Fernández (Hospital Universitario La Paz) and Dr. Klelia Salpea (Innovative Health Initiative).

The panel explored how digital solutions, innovative technologies, and new models of care can be successfully integrated into clinical practice to support the transformation of cardiovascular care pathways. Drawing on the experiences and activities of both EuroHeartPath and GRACE, the discussion highlighted the opportunities and challenges involved in implementing innovation at scale across diverse healthcare systems.

EuroHeartPath was also strongly represented in the scientific programme through six poster presentations, presented by Luuk Kieviet (UMC Utrecht), Lian Rekker(UMC Utrecht), Daniel Breucker(DHM) and Marcos Gallego Llorente(Vintura).

Covering topics such as coronary care, heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis, infrastructure readiness, and value-based healthcare, the posters addressed a common challenge: how to translate robust clinical evidence and guidelines into care that can be delivered consistently in everyday practice.
Together, these contributions reflected the broader objectives of EuroHeartPath: understanding how cardiovascular care is organised across Europe, identifying implementation gaps and good practices, and creating the foundations for pathway improvement and cross-country learning.
GOLDEN Study Results
Another important milestone during the congress was the presentation of two abstracts from the GOLDEN study, providing valuable insights into secondary prevention and patient-centred care in coronary artery disease.
The first abstract, presented by Manon van den Bogaart, examined how elective coronary revascularisation may represent an underutilised opportunity to optimise lipid management, drawing on findings from a multicentre observational cohort.
The second abstract, presented by Daphne Schaminee, highlighted that more than one in four patients hospitalised for coronary artery disease report significant concerns regarding their medications, underscoring the importance of understanding patients’ perspectives when designing treatment strategies.
These presentations demonstrate the collaborative efforts of the consortium to generate evidence that supports more personalised, equitable, and value-based cardiovascular care across Europe.
ESC Congress 2026 provided an invaluable opportunity for EuroHeartPath to engage with clinicians, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and patient advocates from around the world. The discussions and scientific exchanges held throughout the congress reinforced the growing need for innovative, evidence-based approaches to transforming cardiovascular care pathways.
We thank all consortium partners and attendees who contributed to the success of our activities in Munich and look forward to continuing our work towards better cardiovascular care for patients across Europe.
