GOLDEN
Each year in the Netherlands, over 230,000 people are hospitalized due to cardiovascular events. Despite clear guidelines for preventing a second event, most patients fail to meet their treatment targets—putting them at high risk for repeat heart attacks, strokes, or interventions.
This study introduces a “First-Time-Right” strategy: starting patients on optimal guideline-based medications immediately during hospitalization, instead of gradually increasing doses over time.
Goal:
Compare this proactive approach with standard care to see if early, aggressive treatment can better prevent future cardiovascular events.
By improving how we start secondary prevention, we aim to drastically reduce preventable hospital readmissions and deaths.
